Competitive Dragon Boat

Our Mixed Gender Competitive paddling team will run from May 6 to September 14, 2024, Monday evenings from 7-8:30pm and Wednesdays from 7-8 pm. Paddlers will have access to the Club OCs through a sign-up process.  Competitive paddlers are expected to be on water a minimum of 3 times a week either in a dragon boat and/or OC.

Through this program, participants will deepen their skills in dragon boating. They are encouraged to make connection with the paddle stroke between an OC and dragon boat to develop their skill and connection with water further.

Given that safety is our top priority participants will learn essential water safety skills, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to navigate various water environments safely. They will also be encouraged to develop and adopt safe training habits and behaviors.

This program has expectations of all paddlers to participate in off water physical workouts and cardio workouts to increase personal strength and cardio endurance to keep up with on-water workouts, dragon boat races, in-club races.

Throughout the program, participants will embark on an exciting journey where they will:

  • Connect with nature for mental wellness.
  • Learn with a positive and holistic approach.
  • Receive individual and personalized coaching time.
  • Push their limits & work on their physical strength and abilities.
  • Develop water safety skills and awareness.
  • Become skilled paddlers.
  • Develop a lifelong love for paddling.
  • Have fun and make new friends.

As in our other programs, all equipment is provided, and practice are held at Wildwood Conservation Area.
