
The Thames River Paddling Club (TRPC) Youth Dragon Boat Programs offer a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment where young paddlers can stay active, try something new, and build lasting friendships. Aligned with the club’s mission of fostering community, personal growth, and a love for paddling, our youth programs are designed to welcome participants of all experience levels.
Open to youth ages 11–17, these programs take place at the beautiful Wildwood Conservation Area in St. Marys, Ontario. No experience is required, and all equipment is provided—participants simply need to come ready to learn, have fun, and be part of a team. With the guidance of our dedicated and experienced coaches, youth will develop paddling skills, confidence, teamwork, and a strong sense of belonging.

Please note that members registering in a full-season program will be asked to complete a volunteer bond, helping to support the club and its events.
Introduction Program – 5 Weeks!
Curious about dragon boat and looking for a great way to get started? Our 5-week Youth Introduction Program is the perfect place to start!
Designed for ages 12 to 17, this program gives young paddlers the chance to learn the basics of dragon boat in a fun, supportive, and team-focused environment. No experience is required—just bring your energy and willingness to try something new.
Participants will practice twice a week (Mondays & Wednesdays from 6:00–7:00 PM) from May 11 to June 13, building skills, confidence, and teamwork on the water.

The program includes:
- On-water coaching and skill development
- All equipment provided
- A team shirt
- Entry into the Fanshawe Dragon Boat Festival on June 13
By the end of the program, paddlers will have the opportunity to experience the excitement of racing as part of a team!
Following the program, participants are welcome to continue paddling by joining our full season Youth Program.
Full Season Youth Program

The full season Youth Dragon Boat Program runs from May 4 to September 16, 2026 and focuses on developing skills, teamwork, and race experience throughout the summer.
Practices are held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, where athletes will develop their paddling skills, teamwork, and race strategies in a fun and supportive environment.
The program includes on-water training, dryland drills, and team-building activities, preparing paddlers for competition. The team will participate in three race events over the summer (noted below).
Throughout the program, participants will embark on an exciting journey where they will:
- Build paddling skills and confidence
- Improve strength and endurance
- Learn teamwork & race strategy
- Develop water safety skills and awareness.
- Have fun and make new friends.
